The state of Gujarat has been in the forefront of promoting Solar power projects and had one of the first states to issue a Solar policy sometime in the beginning of January2009 much before the announcement of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission(JNNSM).
The policy that was announced in January 2009 will remain operative until March 31, 2014 and the target for installation during the policy period was set to 500MW with a minimum project size of 5MW.
The original tariff announced in the policy was :
Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) became the first State Regulatory Commission in the country to issue a tariff order on solar energy. It had issued its first tariff order for procurement of power by distribution licensees from solar energy generators (solar photovoltaic and solar thermal projects).
The tariff for energy from solar photovoltaic generators is Rs 15 per unit and for solar thermal Rs 11 per unit for the initial 12 years, and Rs 5 and Rs 4 per unit from 13th year onwards respectively.
Once again Gujarat has taken the lead in execution with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd finalizing 17 PPAs for 235MW of generated Solar PV and Solar Thermal for 25 years. According to the report the projects that have won the capacity allotment are as follows:
|Capacity Allotment||Type of Project||Developer|
|10 MW||Solar PV||Sunkon Energy
Astonfield Renewable Resources Ltd Zeba Solar
|15MW||Solar PV||Welspun Urja
|20MW||Solar PV||Solar Semiconductor|
|35MW||Solar PV||Lanco Solar Pvt Ltd|
|40MW||Solar PV||PLG Power|
|45MW||Solar PV||Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Ltd|
|25MW||Solar Thermal||Cargo motors|
